EQHO Communications has revised Chulalongkorn University’s localization syllabus as part of its community development initiative. Fundamentals of Localization is a selective course for a Masters Degree in Translation at the university.
This is the fourth year that EQHO has conducted the class. The main purpose of this course is to broaden students' knowledge of the localization industry and opportunities that exist in the translation business.
In this course, students will learn about localization processes and best practices, translation quality management, localization project management, computer aided translation (CAT) tools and machine translation. Each year we will invite guest speakers to share their knowledge and experience in this industry.
This year, Ross Klinger, Group CEO of EQHO Communications, and Alex Ho, Group Senior Manager of Acronis, are joining us as to discuss localization project management and risk management respectively.
Last year, we focused on the opportunities facing localization businesses in Southeast Asia ahead of the economic integration of the region through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which is scheduled to take place in 2015.
AEC will allow the free flow of products, services, investment and manpower across the ten countries that make up ASEAN – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and Vietnam – which have a combined population of almost 600 million people. This process will create localization and translation needs in the region, which in turn will bring opportunities and challenges for translators and localizers.
This year, we will focus on productivity challenges and new trends in localization, such as machine translation. Our special topic is about productivity challenges and localization project management, such as how to manage large volume projects that need to be translated into multiple target languages, how to increase productivity and about how machine translation can expedite the process.
We are going to invite experts in machine translation and localization project management to share their experiences with Chulalongkorn students. We are sure that students will have a great chance to learn and discuss with our guest speakers, which will help them get a better idea about the localization and translation industry.
